After an overnight stay in Joshimath, morning depart from hotel and drive up to the place called Govind Ghat. Govind Ghat is 22 km away from Joshimath and also a starting point for trekking. Govind ghat is situated at an altitude of 6000 feet. You will not get enough time to explore the area as you need to hurry up for reaching Ghangaria.
However, Govind ghat is a beautiful place to look around and also a confluence of rivers of Alaknanda and Hem Ganga. Presences of beautiful Gurudwara make this place more worth seeing. 14 km trek starts from here for base camp Ghangaria. Road leads to Badrinath from here as well.
After trek of 14 km, you will reach the base called Ghangaria, a tiny hamlet lies on way to the Hemkund Sahib (a famous pilgrim shrine for Sikh). Ghangaria is a base point for Valley of flowers and Hemkund Sahib. Ghangaria village is situated at an altitude of 3050 meters in the state of Uttarakhand.
Valley of flowersnational park is about 4 to 5 km away and Hemkund sahib is about 6 km from Ghangaria. It is the last habitation in the Bhyundar Valley. There is also a confluence of rivers Bhyundar Ganga and Pushpawati that forms Laksham Ganga.
Ghangaria can be accessed only from June to September because this place is covered under heavy snow rest of the year. Mules and porters are also available. In this small settlements, there are also some good hotels and restaurants available. Do not expect any sort of luxury accommodation here in Ghangaria as it opens for just couple of months.
